Hey, thanks for visiting my blog. I want to be upfront about how this site handles your data. The short answer: I keep things minimal and I respect your privacy.

Who I Am

I'm Usman Ghani, and I run this blog at usmanghani.co. It's a personal blog where I share IT tutorials, deployment guides, and tips about Microsoft, VMware, and cloud technologies. I'm based in Vasteras, Sweden.

What Data I Collect

This is a static blog — there are no user accounts, no login forms, and no comment submission system. That said, here's what does get collected:

Google Analytics

I use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how people find and use my site. This helps me figure out which articles are helpful and what topics to write about next. Google Analytics collects things like:

  • Which pages you visit and how long you stay
  • Your general location (country/city level, not your exact address)
  • What device and browser you're using
  • How you found the site (search engine, direct link, etc.)

Google Analytics uses cookies to do this. You can opt out by using a browser extension like Google Analytics Opt-out or by adjusting your browser's cookie settings.

Server Logs

Like any website, the hosting server automatically logs basic information when you visit — your IP address, browser type, and which pages you requested. This is standard stuff that every web server does, and I don't dig through these logs unless something goes wrong.

What I Don't Collect

Let me be clear about what this site does not do:

  • I don't ask you to create an account
  • I don't collect your email address (unless you reach out to me directly)
  • I don't run ads or use ad tracking
  • I don't sell or share your personal data with anyone
  • I don't use any marketing automation or retargeting

Cookies

The only cookies on this site come from Google Analytics and your theme preference (light/dark mode, stored in your browser's local storage). That's it. No third-party ad cookies, no tracking pixels, no social media trackers.

Third-Party Links

My articles sometimes link to other websites, tools, or documentation. Once you click a link that takes you off my site, I have no control over what that site does with your data. Check their privacy policies if you're concerned.

Your Rights

If you're in the EU (like me), you have rights under GDPR including:

  • Access — You can ask me what data I have about you
  • Deletion — You can ask me to delete any personal data
  • Correction — You can ask me to fix inaccurate data
  • Objection — You can object to how I process your data

Honestly, since this is a static blog with no user accounts, there's very little personal data to worry about. But if you have questions, just reach out.

Data Retention

Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months, after which it's automatically deleted. Server logs are rotated and deleted regularly by the hosting provider.

Children's Privacy

This site isn't aimed at children under 16. I don't knowingly collect data from minors.

Changes to This Policy

If I make meaningful changes to this policy, I'll update the date at the top. I'm not going to sneak anything past you — this site is a personal blog, not a data collection operation.
